Merridy Tomasek Obituary, Death – A tragic two-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon north of Madison claimed the life of one woman and left another injured.
Sheriff Todd Volk of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched around 3:45 p.m. to the area near North Main Street and Highway 81 in response to the crash. Upon arrival, authorities found a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu on the shoulder of Highway 81 and a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country in a field east of the highway.
Emergency responders worked to extricate the driver of the Malibu, identified as Merridy Tomasek of Norfolk, using the jaws of life. The driver of the Town and Country, Sarah Robinson of Madison, had managed to exit her vehicle.
According to a witness, Tomasek’s Malibu was traveling eastbound on North Main Street. After stopping at the stop sign, the vehicle entered Highway 81 and was struck by Robinson’s Town and Country, which was traveling on the highway.
Both women were transported by ambulance to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Robinson was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released. Tragically, Tomasek succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts.
Sheriff Volk stated that the crash remains under investigation as authorities work to piece together the exact circumstances leading up to the collision.
