Michael Bachelor Jr Obituary, Death – Louisville Metro Police are actively investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the Original Highlands neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of two men and injuries to a third. The incident took place in the 900 block of Baxter Avenue, according to LMPD spokesperson John Bradley.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Michael Bachelor Jr., 20, who had been shot and was pronounced dead at the location. Another victim, Montay Wade, 29, was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital but succumbed to his injuries there. A third man, who was also injured, made his way to Norton Women and Children’s Hospital on his own and is expected to survive, Bradley reported.
LMPD is currently in the early stages of their investigation, and spokesperson Matthew Sanders mentioned that no further details or updates about potential suspects have been released. The department is not confirming any specifics at this time.
Data from LMPD’s gun violence dashboard indicates a slight increase in homicides compared to last year. As of Wednesday, the department reported 104 homicide deaths from 98 incidents, up from 97 deaths in 87 incidents at the same point in 2023. This contrasts with a national trend reported by the FBI, which noted a 26.4% decrease in the U.S. homicide rate from January to March 2024.
The dashboard also reveals a decrease in the number of reported shooting incidents year-to-date in 2024, with 296 compared to 306 in 2023, 340 in 2022, 481 in 2021, and 365 in 2020.
In a related case, on July 21, Devontae Beach, 31, was found dead from gunshot wounds in the 800 block of West Main Street, near prominent local landmarks like the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory. Beach, who was a manager for Louisville artist EST Gee, was declared dead by EMS at the scene.
