Nathan Morris Obituary, Death – A man from Canton Township lost his life on Saturday following an alleged shooting incident during a dispute with his neighbour, according to police reports. The deceased, identified by the Michigan GOP as 35-year-old Nathan Morris, was fatally shot at 11:48 a.m. in the vicinity of the 200 block of Cornell Street.
According to a statement from RNC National Committeewoman Hima Kolanagireddy, “On Saturday, while enjoying a walk with his family in their neighbourhood, his daughter inadvertently touched the mulch of a neighbour’s yard. The neighbour then brandished a firearm and began threatening the family. Nathan instructed his family to return home, stating he would attempt to resolve the situation, but tragically, he was shot and killed instead.”
Upon receiving reports of the shooting, police arrived at the scene to find the father lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, the suspect reportedly barricaded himself inside his residence; however, he later surrendered to law enforcement after being given multiple commands.
The suspect is currently in custody, awaiting evaluation by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. “This was an irrational act of violence against the victim,” remarked Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh. “The Canton Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and to the neighbors who may have witnessed this unfortunate occurrence.”
Morris served as the secretary of the 6th Congressional District Republican Committee, as noted in the Michigan GOP’s statement.
“Nathan Morris was a friend, a dedicated patriot, a devout Christian, a loving husband to Becky, and a wonderful father to Molly and Zoey,” Kolanagireddy stated. “He worked as an engineer at Ford Motors and became politically active in response to Ford’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. He ran for a position on the Canton School Board to ensure the safety of schools for his daughters. I collaborated closely with him in my capacity as the former Chair of the MI-6th CDRC and as a member of the Wayne 6th CDRC, where he held the position of Secretary.”
