An 85-year-old man from Florida lost his life in a tragic four-vehicle collision that took place on Wednesday afternoon in New Canaan. The man, identified as Frank Lawrence Brantner of St. Petersburg, Florida, was driving a Lexus 350 RC when the accident occurred on Route 15 north, just before exit 37, around 3 p.m.
According to state police, the incident began when a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling in the right lane of the highway, while a GMC Sierra was in the left lane. Following behind the pickup was a Kia Forte, driven by a third person, who had slowed down in response to the vehicle ahead. Brantner, who was driving the Lexus, failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the Kia Forte.
The impact caused the Forte to collide with both the pickup and the Sierra. Thankfully, the drivers of the Ford F-150 and GMC Sierra were not injured in the accident. The driver of the Forte sustained only minor injuries and was transported to Norwalk Hospital for further evaluation.
However, Brantner, who was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived on the scene, was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to the same hospital.
State police have appealed to the public for any witnesses to come forward and contact authorities as part of their investigation into the crash.
