Nicholas Cohen Obituary, Death – A fatal crash occurred Thanksgiving morning on U.S. 441/SR 7 near the Wellington/Lake Worth line, involving a dirt bike and a car. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Nicholas Cohen from Lake Worth, was riding a Kawasaki dirt bike when the incident took place. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), Cohen was traveling westbound across the southbound lanes of State Road 7, moving in the wrong direction.
Cohen’s dirt bike collided with a southbound Alfa Romeo Giulia that was traveling in the inside lane of State Road 7. The crash occurred when Cohen failed to yield to the oncoming vehicle, resulting in a collision where the front of the Alfa Romeo struck the right side of Cohen’s bike and him. Following the impact, Cohen was thrown onto the vehicle’s hood, windshield, and roof before hitting the pavement.
The Alfa Romeo driver managed to bring the car to a controlled stop, but Cohen’s bike slid to a final resting position several feet away. Emergency responders rushed Cohen to St. Mary’s Medical Center via helicopter, but he was later pronounced dead from the injuries sustained during the crash.
PBSO officials confirmed that no charges have been filed against the driver of the Alfa Romeo, as there was no indication that the driver was at fault. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities noted that it is unusual for someone on a dirt bike to be traveling across a north-south road in such a manner.
This incident marks a tragic start to the holiday, with the investigation into the cause of the crash continuing.
