Omil Padilla-Corsino Obituary, Death – A man hailing from Puerto Rico has been arrested on a murder charge following the fatal stabbing of another individual in New Bedford on Saturday. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office reported that New Bedford Police were dispatched to 68 South Street in the early afternoon of August 24. Upon arrival, they discovered Omil Padilla-Corsino, 23, suffering from severe stab wounds that posed a threat to his life.
He was subsequently transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police, assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, identified Juan Padilla-Santana, 32, as the alleged perpetrator. He has been taken into custody and faces a murder charge.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Padilla-Santana is related to the victim, and the stabbing stemmed from a dispute among family members inside 68 South Street. Padilla-Santana is anticipated to be arraigned on Monday in New Bedford District Court.
This incident marks the fourth homicide in New Bedford this month.
Initially, on August 4, 44-year-old Aaron Britto of New Bedford was shot and killed on Earle Street during the early morning hours. One individual has been arrested in connection with that case. Subsequently, on August 17, Nicholas Miller, 26, from Bridgewater, was shot and killed on Acushnet Avenue.
On August 20, Stephen Oswald, 58, of New Bedford, was allegedly murdered by Nina Busnengo, 31, who was last known to reside in Mattapoisett.
