Paul Sallmen, Ryan J. Whalen Obituary, Death – On Saturday, a tragic shooting occurred on Glenwood Drive in Hubert, Onslow County, leading to the deaths of two men. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office reported that Paul Sallmen, aged 43, was discovered at the scene with gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save his life, Sallmen was pronounced dead at the location.
The investigation quickly identified Ryan J. Whalen, 30, as the suspect in the case. Whalen was later located by Swansboro police officers and North Carolina State Highway Patrol Troopers near the intersection of Buckhaven Road and Sandridge Road. When officers approached Whalen’s vehicle, they heard a gunshot and found Whalen deceased inside the car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities have determined that the shooting was related to domestic violence. They revealed that Whalen and a woman had been in a relationship in the past but were no longer together. It appears that Whalen’s anger over the woman’s involvement with Sallmen led to the tragic events.
