Remus Tardy Obituary, Death – A Baldwin man, identified as 40-year-old Remus Tardy, tragically died late Saturday in a single-vehicle crash near La. 83 in Franklin, Louisiana. Louisiana State Police Troop I reported the incident occurred shortly before midnight on the eastbound U.S. 90 frontage road, just west of La. 83.
According to the preliminary investigation, Tardy was driving a 2002 Lincoln Town Car when, for reasons still being investigated, he veered off the roadway to the right. Tardy attempted to correct his course by steering left, but he overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn. Tardy, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
A passenger, who was also unrestrained, was injured in the crash. The passenger was transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. Both Tardy and the passenger were unrestrained, which contributed to the severity of the incident.
As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were taken for analysis to determine if impairment played a role in the crash. While the investigation is still in progress, Louisiana State Police emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts. They noted that although not all crashes are survivable, wearing seat belts can significantly increase the chances of survival and reduce the severity of injuries. Proper seatbelt use is critical, with seatbelts needing to be positioned across the hips and shoulders, and children requiring appropriate car seats to ensure their safety.
In addition to the seatbelt reminder, state police also highlighted that distracted and inattentive driving are significant contributors to crashes in the state. They urged drivers to avoid distractions and stay alert to help prevent accidents and ensure safer roads for everyone. The ongoing investigation into this fatal crash continues as authorities work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
