Rodrigo Torrijos-Perez, Rita Faye Edwards Obituary, Death – Two people lost their lives in separate traffic accidents in Jefferson County on Wednesday. Authorities have identified the victims as a 19-year-old man from Hoover and a 75-year-old woman from Birmingham.
The first crash occurred early in the morning in Bessemer. According to the coroner’s office, Rodrigo Torrijos-Perez was driving on 9th Avenue North near 22nd Street when he was involved in a collision with another vehicle. Emergency responders transported him to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:01 a.m. The Bessemer Police Department is currently investigating the details surrounding the crash.
Later that morning, another fatal accident took place in Pinson. At approximately 10:35 a.m., Rita Faye Edwards was driving along Highway 151 near Pinson Boulevard when she was involved in a collision. Like Torrijos-Perez, she was transported to UAB Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at 11:13 a.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has taken charge of the investigation into this incident.
Officials confirmed that neither driver had passengers in their vehicles at the time of the accidents. Investigators are working to determine the causes of both crashes.
