Stephanie Wishmyer Obituary, Death – The West Virginia State Police (WVSP) have disclosed the identity of the woman who tragically lost her life when a large tree was uprooted and fell onto her residence during a storm in Harpers Ferry. Authorities have identified the deceased as 36-year-old Stephanie Wishmyer.
On August 8, shortly before 10 p.m., multiple first responders were dispatched to the 200 block of Mad Hatter Road following reports of a structural collapse. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered that a substantial oak tree had fallen through a house.
According to troopers, the tree struck Wishmyer, pinning her beneath it. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene. At the time of the incident, both Wishmyer and her husband, Peter Twigg, were inside the residence. State police reported that Twigg was in a separate part of the home when the tree fell and managed to escape unharmed.
Officials noted that while emergency personnel were present, a second tree fell, damaging equipment belonging to the Independent Fire Company. This tree also brought down power lines in the vicinity, which affected Loudoun County’s fire apparatus.
Operations were temporarily halted until the power lines were cleared, but fortunately, no injuries were reported during this subsequent incident.
WVSP indicated that the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia began experiencing heavy rainfall on Thursday due to the influence of Tropical Storm Debby at the time the tree fell.
