Steve Carpenter Obituary, Death News – A tragic accident claimed the life of 68-year-old Steve Carpenter, a Milton resident, after he crashed his bicycle into the back of a box truck near Lewes, Delaware. The Delaware State Police confirmed Carpenter’s identity following the incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
Incident Details
The accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. as Carpenter was riding his bicycle along a paved bike path that runs parallel to Venables Drive. He was heading north and approaching the intersection with Senators Drive. At the same time, a box truck was also traveling north on Venables Drive and was preparing to turn onto Senators Drive.
According to police reports, Carpenter entered the intersection as the truck was making its turn. He attempted to avoid a collision, but unfortunately, he struck the right rear side of the truck.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Carpenter to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Truck Driver and Passenger Unharmed
The driver of the box truck, identified as a 26-year-old man from Wilmington, and his 27-year-old passenger from the New Castle area, were not injured in the collision. Authorities have not released their names.
