Usha Mallik Obituary, Death – In a tragic accident on Sunday night in Johnson County, one person lost their life, and several others sustained injuries. The incident occurred when a Jeep Cherokee, driven by a man who failed to stop at a stop sign on 140th Street around 5:30 p.m., collided with multiple vehicles on Highway 1.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee failed to adhere to a stop sign and subsequently crashed into a camper that was being towed by a Chevrolet pickup truck. This initial impact caused the Jeep Cherokee to veer into oncoming traffic, striking a Toyota Rav4 traveling in the opposite direction.
The collision caused debris from the camper to hit a fourth vehicle, a Honda CRV. The resulting chaos from the crash left one person dead and several others injured.
The Iowa State Patrol identified the deceased as 77-year-old Usha Mallik from Iowa City. Mallik was driving the Toyota Rav4 that was struck during the incident.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City for treatment. Additionally, three other individuals, including a 1-year-old child, were transported to the hospital by ambulance.
