Vernon S. Lee, II Obituary, Death – Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 95 in Prince William County that resulted in the death of a 57-year-old man from Chester, Virginia. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, in the southbound express lanes of I-95.
The crash took place around 2:39 p.m. when a 2020 Lexus RX was stopped on the right shoulder of the express lanes. The vehicle was struck by a 2022 Ford F-250, which had veered off the right side of the road, colliding with the Lexus. The force of the impact caused the Lexus to hit the guardrail before being pushed back into the travel lanes, where it came to a stop, facing oncoming traffic.
The driver of the Lexus, identified as Vernon S. Lee II, 57, of Chester, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Authorities confirmed that Lee was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A passenger in the Lexus, 25-year-old Shannon S. Lee, also from Chester, suffered serious injuries in the collision and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. She, too, was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Ford F-250, 43-year-old Jeremy S. Kubela of Fredericksburg, was not injured in the crash. Following the incident, Kubela was charged with reckless driving by Virginia State Police.
At this time, the cause of the crash remains under investigation by VSP, which is looking into the circumstances that led to the Ford F-250 veering off the road and striking the Lexus.
